FAQs

What is "MòdnaTemp" ?

MòdnaTemp is a very basic applet for the GNOME desktop environment.
Its only purpose is to display the outside temperature recorded in Modena, Italy with at precision to the 1/1000th degree Celsius.

What about "gweather2" (Weather Report)? Isn't that better?

Weather Report is in fact MUCH better than MòdnaTemp.
It provides not only current conditions reports but also customizable forecasts for locations all over the world.

Then why was "MòdnaTemp" created?

First of all because I have a big ego and I like seeing my name in as many source files as I can :D .
Secondly because if you ever tried a desktop/bar applet to see current weather conditions in Modena you must have been very disappointed. The
only weather station that provides public weather data around here is at Bologna's airport (BLQ), almost 50 kilometers from Modena.
This means inaccurate readings, especially during autumn, winter and spring.

I understand the applet reads an XML feed from a sensor in Modena. Where does the data come from?

From my house :) .
I recently installed an outside temperature sensor (to alert me if I need to wear my winter jacket or not) and then I thought of making the data
public. But since I had never worked on anything GTK+, I said "Why not make it an applet altogether?".

How do I install and use "MòdnaTemp"?

See the next section.

Why all the text is written in English? Modena is in Italy!

Suck it up. English is the web's language.

I love "MòdnaTemp" so much that I want to make a donation

Thank you for the kind thought, but I don't need money.
Give it to charity instead.
